Wayne Smith, the founder of Experiencing God Through Missions Inc says that he was returning from a long ‘prodigal son,’ trip when he found himself on a church rooftop in El Pacifico, Mexico in 1995. In that location, God welcomed Wayne back with open arms, just like the father did for his prodigal son.
Over the next 12 months, at a secluded picnic table alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, USA, God started a lengthy molding process on Wayne’s life. Part of the process was God speaking to Wayne in a very audible voice with just two words; “Serve Me.”
Then the argument with God started, as God revealed His plan that would be carried out through Wayne. When God instructed Wayne to start a mission ministry, Wayne said “no way. I am an electronics application engineer. Ministry and mission organizations require people skilled in administration, management and with financial resources. I don’t have any of those,” exclaimed Wayne!
God said, “I know. Therefore when the mission projects are successful, I will get the glory and recognition, not you.”
Wayne tried a different argument, “But, God, churches are already doing missions. Mission agencies abound, especially here in western North Carolina. You don’t need another one.” Slowly and patiently, so that a ‘rebellious son’ could understand, God explained. “I will show you a project. Then I will prepare the hearts and minds of those I want to do the project. All you have to do, is put the two together.” With those simple, but God ordained instructions, Experiencing God Through Missions Inc was founded.
Judy, Wayne’s wife, said that during this process, she just didn’t understand what God was doing through her husband. But, God was working in her heart also and she willing joined Wayne in his commitment, because, “God doesn’t call just a husband or wife, He calls them both, to work together.”
As you click on the various links and pages of this website, view the photos and videos, read the letters and news articles, you will see the results of what God has done and is doing. This ministry is building churches and expanding churches so that preachers will have a place to preach. Modular, re-useable handicap ramps are being built so that handicap people will not be a prisoner in their own homes. Evangelistic Gift Packs are being distributed along the highways and byways so that all can hear the Good News. Faith Sharing workshops are being conducted so that neighbor can witness to neighbor. Through the Hidden Scripture-Silent Witness ministry, God’s word is being preserved as the Holy Scriptures are copied and hidden inside each structure built.
