What's In Your Closet?
The lock snapped shut with a solid click. The kind of click that makes you know that whatever is behind those closed doors is safe and secure. Satisfied, I walked the few feet to my car. As I opened the door, I glanced back at the storage unit. D46 was solid. No one could get to my stuff inside. For a few minutes, I stared at the closed door and thought about ‘my stuff.’ For years, ‘my stuff’ had been in that storage unit. For years, I paid them $45 a month to keep ‘my stuff’ safe. Safe? What was I saving it for? Then, I remembered, that my logical thinking, years before, when I paid that first months rent was that “someday I might need that stuff.”
Over the years, I added a few more items to ‘my stuff,’ but hardly ever did I take any of ‘my stuff’ out of storage. What a waste of money. Month after month after month. On my way home, I decided that it was time to get rid of ‘my stuff.’ Besides if I ever needed any of ‘that stuff,’ I could go buy ‘new stuff.’
Several weeks later, all of ‘my stuff’ was at a yard sale. At the end of the day, ‘my stuff,’ was gone. Not only was I now saving $45 a month, but ‘my stuff’ had sold for $1545.00 which was promptly contributed to missions!
It’s now 15 years later and guess what? I still haven’t needed any of ‘that stuff.’ How about you? Maybe ‘your stuff’ is not in a storage unit. Maybe it’s in the basement or attic. Maybe it’s in a closet or a building out back. Wherever you store your ‘I might need it some day stuff,’ maybe it’s time to let someone else have it. Think about it and pray about it. If it’s time to get rid of ‘your stuff,’ how about donating it to the 2nd Annual Experiencing God Through Missions Inc Yard sale to benefit missions. All you have to do is get it to Bent Creek Baptist Church, 1554 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC 28806. You can bring it Thursday, April 23 between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Or on Friday, April 24 between 1:30pm and 7:30pm. You might want to bring ‘your stuff,’ and stay and lend a helping hand. Angie will need lots of people to sort, display and price the items. No experience necessary! All are welcome – men or women!
No ‘stuff’ to bring? That’s okay! Please help, whether you can stay for just a few hours or many hours. Angie and her dedicated fund raising missionaries will appreciate any and all help! We expect this benefit yard sale to be the largest in western North Carolina in 2009. Don and Joann will be the cashiers on Saturday, April 25, but dozens of ‘clerks’ will be needed to help our visitors make their selections and tote their ‘stuff’ to their cars.
However you can help, by bring ‘stuff’ or lending a helping hand or both, please let Angie know, right away, by phone (828) 668-7825 or email akingom@hotmail.com. Remember, all this is for God’s glory, not ours.
God Bless,
